St
Albans Gang Entertain the World
St
Albans Gang Show put itself firmly on the world map in April
2006 when they entertained Scout Chiefs from across the
world. Ninty members of the 2006 cast put on an hour long
gala show in London as part of a unique weekend to launch
the 2007 World Scout Jamboree.
The
St Albans Gang were asked to represent the UK by national
Scout headquarters who sent representatives to see the 2006
show. The Jamboree organisers were originally looking for
a short 20 minute performance but were so impressed with
the St Albans Gang that they asked them to put together
a full one hour show.
The
gala performance combined big musical production numbers
with smaller comedy sketches and close harmony singing and
won two standing ovations from the 150 strong international
audience .
In
addition to the international guests the evening was attended
by the Chief Scout Peter Duncan, the Chief Executive of
the Scout Association Derek Twine and representatives from
the World Scout Bureau.
Chief
Scout and ex Blue Peter presenter Peter Duncan was delighted
with the Show. As an actor and TV presenter he has many
years of experience in the performing arts and said 'The
St Albans Gang did a truly magnificent job of entertaining
our guests from around the world. Over 50 countries were
represented at the gala evening and everyone was hugely
impressed with the energy, creativity and true professionalism
of the performers. They were a credit to UK Scouting &
Guiding'.
The
St Albans Gang were honoured to have been asked to represent
the UK on the world scene. It was a tremendous challenge
as the cast had just three weeks to rehearse the show and
the behind the scenes logistics were amazingly complex.
However, the cast and crew pulled out all the stoppers and
did a simply fantastic job of getting the show on the road
The
St Albans Gang combined the performance with their annual
camp which took place at Gilwell Park in Chingford. In addition
to their gala performance on Saturday they also enjoyed
a weekend of camping and outdoor activities.
